10 Years of Running a CBT Private Practice: Reflections and Lessons
Posted on 16th April 2025 at 11:04
A decade ago, we took a leap of faith and opened the doors to MoodWise, our private Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) practice.
At the time, we were equal parts hopeful and uncertain.
What followed has been an incredible journey of growth, learning, and connection.

Over these ten years, we have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life—each with their own stories, struggles, and strengths. CBT’s structured, evidence-based approach has proven time and again to be a powerful tool for change. Watching clients challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, build healthier behaviours, and reclaim their sense of control has been deeply rewarding.
Of course, running a private practice hasn’t been without its challenges. From navigating the business side of therapy—marketing, scheduling, admin—to adapting to the digital shift brought on by the pandemic, we’ve learned that flexibility and resilience are just as essential behind the scenes as they are in therapy sessions.
What stands out most from these years is the importance of authenticity and connection. Whether in person or online, the therapeutic relationship remains at the heart of meaningful change. We have also come to appreciate the value of continued learning and supervision—remaining open, curious, and non-judgemental is key to providing effective support.
As we step into the next chapter, we do so with gratitude—for the trust clients have placed in us, for the lessons they’ve taught us, and for the opportunity to keep growing, both personally and professionally.
